About the Artist:
When Lynette was a little girl, her parents took her to art and history museums.  Like many children, Lynette was very bored.  Because of her youth, she did not yet understand how important art was.  While in school, Lynette was given the choice to take classes in the fine arts or music.  Since Lynette didn’t know anything about music she chose the fine arts.  Once in college, Lynette could not decide on what major to choose.  This drove her crazy.  It finally occurred to her, that art is what made her happy.

Currently, Lynette is working on her bachelor’s degree in art and creative writing.  She enjoys writing; however painting is her love.  Lynette’s portraits are bold and zesty, with a little attitude sprinkled on top.

Lynette's Personal Statement:
“My paintings are my words.”

Lynette Slape is an up and coming artist who found her passion in college by creating art.  Slape’s medium of choice is acrylic paint and mostly works in portraiture.  Her portrait, Strength, not only shows the viewer a person but also shows power. Strength is not an easily obtained emotion.  There is always a moment when a person needs to collect himself or herself in order to stay strong.  Slape has captured this moment in time.  The viewer can feel the subject deep in thought and taking deep breaths preparing for what is next.

Color is important in portrait paintings.  It is obvious when the portrait is photo-realistic and why the colors are what a person would normally see.  When the portrait does not use a photo-realistic palette, the viewer then questions what do these colors mean. Infantino Frenandes, a contemporary sculptor from India, tried out painting by creating a self-portrait.  His colors were not realistic, as well.  Both artists used color to produce personality and to develop an environment for the subject.
